OUR NEXT EVENT IS FEBRUARY 28!!!!
RU A FAN: HAWK WILD
RU A FAN?
Students that wanted to attend the game paid $10 which included; a
charter bus ride to and from the game, Rockhurst University T-Shirt, Rally
Towel, and Pizza on the ride home (Sponsored by Residents Life).
Leading up to the game, Student Senate transformed Thomas Moore Dining Hall into a tornado of blue. They had streamers looping from almost every ceiling title to a center ring where a cluster of blue balloons were hung. Furthermore, they hung a twenty-five foot banner in front of the cafeteria entrance that read, “R U A FAN? SUPPORT ROCKHURST PROUDLY”. In addition, they cut out blue support ribbons and the Rockhurst “R” out of blue construction paper and posted them around the facility. Senate also created a large six banners that encouraged students to go to the game. They wanted to build a multitude of excitement leading up to the game.
Also, with the assistance of the Rockhurst Cheerleaders, they had a pep rally recognizing all members from both, men and women teams. Also they taught cheers to the crowd which they could perform at the game. Plus, the Rockhurst Dance Team and the Cheerleaders gave a performance.
While on the ride to and from the game students watched movies, created banners, created confetti out of newspaper, and applied face paint to each other. This made the Game even more exciting. The suspense was just swirling. Once arriving at the game the Drury fans were very surprised to see blue walking the stadium concords and in line at the concession stands. The sea of blue took over of a section of the stands. They had it all to themselves.
Back at Rockhurst, Student Senate set up a watch party in the Rockroom in Massman hall. Rockhurst food services provided a wide variety of fun and exciting “game food”. There was about 75 to 100 students that attended the watch party. Although the Hawks lost both games, students were able to cheer on their friends and fellow classmates from the stands and at home.
By allowing students to join in on the excitement, Student Senate hopes that this will be a great stepping-stone to increase school spirit at Rockhurst. GO HAWKS.
